How to Avoid Making December a Bust
With another Fall behind us, we brace for the low temperatures that accompany the beginning of a new year. As savvy business owners and entrepreneurs, it’s important to pause amidst our busy schedules for a little self-reflection.
When’s the last time you asked yourself,
“Am I where I want to be professionally?”
“Are my actions getting me the results I desire?”
“Do I have meaningful relationships and healthy work-life balance?”
As entrepreneurs with many responsibilities and mounting to-do lists, we often don’t take the time to evaluate where our businesses are holding, and how that compares to where we want them to be. Investing in professional growth and development seems to take a back seat to managing – or juggling – our abundant day to day responsibilities.
With the new year around the corner, it’s easy to accept the status quo and put off setting and pursuing goals until January 2016 — if and when we can find the time. But, this is an unproductive and sometimes even destructive mentality.
You don’t want to find yourself in the same shoes next year, with the same difficulty generating strong leads, closing sales or expanding your market.
Have your sales reached a plateau? Are you having a difficult time closing prospecting calls? Are you putting in the hours but not yielding your desired results? The time to explore why is NOW!
If you want to overcome the obstacles holding you back from accelerating growth in your business, I challenge you to take action well before the ball drops this New Year’s Eve. Now is the time to create a plan, to set measurable short and long term goals, and to identify an accountability partner who can hold you to task.
Your strongest competitors will have done their preparations for the New Year well in advance. They’ll be armed with clear action plans and ready to hit the ground running. Will you?
By waiting until the new year to address the issues, strategies and mindsets holding you back from building a legacy business, you run the risk of being left behind.
The promising news is that December doesn’t have to be a write-off. It’s actually an opportune time to buckle down, examine the reasons why you’re struggling to reach benchmarks in your business, and decide how you want to adjust your short and long-term goals.
As a fellow business entrepreneur, I know that running a business can be all encompassing. When you’re absorbed in your day-to-day responsibilities, it can be hard to see the forest for the trees.
