Love May Be Your Best Business Move This Year
Love may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think about business growth, leadership, or revenue goals—but maybe it should be.
Valentine’s Day is often dismissed as a holiday built around cards, candy, and clichés. Yet when viewed through a leadership lens, it offers something far more valuable: a reminder that strong relationships are the foundation of every thriving business and fulfilling life.
With today’s rapid technological change, hybrid teams, and constant digital noise, genuine connection has become a competitive advantage. Appreciation, trust, and commitment are not “soft” ideas. They are strategic forces that shape culture, loyalty, and long-term success.
Valentine’s Day is an invitation to pause and intentionally invest in the relationships that matter most, at home, on your team, and with your clients.
Love Starts at Home
Every strong leader knows that success is difficult to sustain when personal relationships are neglected. Valentine’s Day provides a natural opportunity to refocus on family and loved ones—the people who support you behind the scenes.
Whether your family includes a spouse, children, parents, or chosen family members, this day is a reminder to honor those relationships intentionally. My husband, Mike, and I always make sure to appreciate each other in a special way on Valentine’s Day. This year, work will put us in different places on February 14, but we still made plans to celebrate later this month. I’m very lucky to have a spouse who also happens to be an excellent cook, since he spoils me with homemade goodies in February (and all year long!).
Supporting a partner means more than grand gestures. It means recognizing their role in your life, appreciating their sacrifices, and making time to connect, especially when schedules are full and responsibilities are heavy. Creating shared experiences, even simple ones, strengthens the partnership that makes everything else possible.
Children, too, deserve intentional appreciation. They require more energy, patience, and commitment than most people ever anticipate, yet they are among life’s greatest gifts. Loving them unconditionally—independent of performance, achievements, or choices—creates a foundation of security and confidence that lasts a lifetime.
For parents and aging relatives, time becomes the most meaningful expression of love, a lesson that was made clear to me during my time as a caregiver to my dear, late mom. Regular check-ins, planned visits, and simple presence matter more than ever.
In a world driven by productivity, choosing people over tasks is a powerful act of leadership.
Be Present Where It Matters Most
Busy professionals often measure success by what gets accomplished. But the true measure of success is whether the people you love feel valued along the way.
Turning off distractions, putting phones away, and giving undivided attention communicates respect and care. Encouragement, regardless of age or stage, reminds loved ones that their dreams still matter and that they are not alone in the journey.
Love, when practiced consistently at home, strengthens the emotional resilience leaders need to show up fully everywhere else.
Love Your Team Like You Mean It
No entrepreneur or executive builds success alone. Teams are not just a resource—they are a force multiplier. When people feel valued, trusted, and appreciated, performance improves naturally.
Valentine’s Day is an ideal reminder to acknowledge the efforts of employees and colleagues. Recognition does not need to be elaborate. A sincere thank-you, a public acknowledgment, or a personal note can significantly increase engagement and morale.
Inviting feedback is another powerful expression of respect. When leaders ask for input and genuinely listen, team members feel seen and heard. Their insights often lead to better decisions, improved processes, and stronger results.
Trust is also a critical component of love in leadership. Hiring capable people and then refusing to let go undermines both morale and growth. Empowering others to take ownership demonstrates confidence in their abilities and reinforces mutual respect.
Love Your Clients Through Action
Without clients, there is no business. Yet many organizations focus more on acquiring new customers than nurturing existing relationships.
Valentine’s Day offers a meaningful opportunity to express appreciation in ways clients may not expect. A handwritten note, a thoughtful message, or a small gesture of gratitude can set your business apart in a crowded marketplace.
Serving clients well is one of the clearest expressions of respect. When you value their trust, it shows in how you communicate, how you follow through, and how you deliver on promises. Clients notice consistency, integrity, and effort—and they remember how you make them feel.
Honoring commitments is one of the most powerful forms of professional love. Keeping promises, over-delivering, and showing up with integrity builds trust that fuels long-term loyalty and referrals.
A Strategy Worth Practicing All Year
Valentine’s Day is not about a single moment or gesture. It is a reminder of a mindset—one that recognizes love, appreciation, and commitment as drivers of success rather than distractions from it.
When leaders choose to lead with care, they create stronger families, healthier teams, and more loyal clients. The result is not only greater fulfillment, but sustainable growth and a legacy worth building.
