Becoming a leader at the forefront of a profitable, sustainable, and growing business is a process. It requires you to take action and develop the skills and mindsets necessary to achieve success.

While some people might think top business leaders are born with greater natural ability, the truth is, there’s nothing “natural” about it! It takes great effort, dedication, training, and guidance – on top of raw talent – to achieve lasting success in business with a  sterling reputation, which is what I define as a legacy business.

No one is born successful, but we are all capable of achieving success.

If you want to create a new profitable business or take your existing business to the next level, you need to develop the qualities that 7-figure entrepreneurs have developed before you.

1) Become Self-Disciplined

Successful entrepreneurs understand that consistently completing concrete, daily actions  is the key to unlocking success in business. It’s not always easy to take regular action in order to see long term results. Discipline requires maintaining a driving force to achieve excellence.

That might mean making a set number of complimentary sales calls a day without fail, sending out a newsletter to your mailing list every other week, and attending networking events each week.

The actions you must commit to will vary based on your unique business goals, but becoming adept at self-discipline will empower you to bridge the gap between goals and accomplishments.

2) Master the Art of Persistence

Succeeding in business, and indeed all areas of life, requires being persistent when things don’t go according to plan. Because obstacles are inevitable, if you call it quits whenever you struggle or experience failure in your business, you’ll never work long enough to achieve growth and profitability.

When it feels like everything is going wrong, it’s easy to become discouraged. But the most successful entrepreneurs find the will within themselves to stay the course. Rather than getting sucked into disappointment and self-doubt when challenges arise, they keep pushing and refuse to give up.

3) Perfect Your First Impression

Broadening your social network allows you to generate leads, develop referral partners, and build mutually advantageous partnerships. In order to take the first step in building valuable business relationships, you need to make a good first impression. Failing to do so can kill an opportunity before it has a chance to take flight.

Within moments – just three seconds to be exact – of meeting you, people decide all sorts of things about you. They make judgments about your warmth, intelligence, trustworthiness, competence, character, confidence, and status. They decide whether they like you, want to get to know you, and are open to doing business with you. Like it or not, first impressions count.

People’s first impression of you is based largely on your image. Therefore, managing your image is one of the best ways to ensure you make a positive first impression. So dress to impress in order to exude confidence because confidence helps close sales.

Don’t forget your verbal and nonverbal communication. A firm handshake demonstrates confidence and self-assuredness. The way you introduce yourself and the first few moments of a conversation shed light on who you are and set the stage for what it will be like to communicate with you in the future. It’s critical to speak clearly and professionally when first meeting someone.

4) Gain Clear Direction

Having clarity of vision is powerful in business, but it takes courage to set a goal, craft specific action plans designed to bring your goal to fruition, and work with unwavering commitment day in and day out.

The most successful entrepreneurs make it a priority to identify their short and long-term targets. If your goals are unclear, you are like a ship lost at sea, drifting in whichever direction the wind blows you. Goals are the powerful navigation system that will enable you to be purposeful, to plan, and gain momentum in a meaningful direction.

Once your vision is clear, you can map out the action steps you need to take daily, weekly, monthly and annually in order to achieve results and build a thriving Legacy Business.
