Turning Mistakes Into Motivation

Tony Robbins famously says: “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.”

mistakes

Every entrepreneur I’ve ever met has made bad choices some time or another.

Making the wrong choice isn’t an entrepreneur problem – it’s a people problem! We’ve all made mistakes. Some are bigger, others are smaller. Some can be easily resolved while others cause serious damage.

When other people do or say something that hurts us, it’s easier to have faith that it was part of a Divine plan and that it’s all for the best.

But what about when we bring the trouble on ourselves? Suddenly letting go and moving on isn’t so easy.

Newsflash: Nobody is perfect. Sometimes we do or say the wrong thing, and let ourselves and the people we care about down.

It can be tempting to look at your mistakes as personal failures. But that will set you down a path of unproductive guilt, hopelessness, and low self-esteem.

In business and in life, mistakes are par de course. Inevitably, they have consequences that can set you back.

But when you perceive each mistake as a colossal failure, you create a destructive mindset. Negative voices in your head tell you that you’re doomed to fail again and that you’ll never get it right. Listening to these voices will limit your ability to LEARN, GROW, ACHIEVE and PROSPER.

You won’t achieve success in your business or personal life until you start looking at mistakes as opportunities for growth.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s still critical that you take ownership over your choices, your words and your actions. If you made a mistake that negatively affected others, respond swiftly and with integrity. It’s your responsibility to admit the wrongdoing, offer an apology and do what you can to right the wrong.

However, rather than dwelling on your failure and beating yourself up, ask yourself:

  • What lessons can I learn from this experience?
  • Can I take any action steps to make this right?
  • What could I have done differently?
  • How can I avoid making similar mistakes in the future?

These are the types of questions that will turn your mistakes into motivational lessons that will empower your personal and professional growth.

goals

As we enter the fourth and final quarter of the year, it’s important to reflect on how you’ve done. Have you set attainable goals with clear milestones? Have you achieved your sales goals? Have you expanded your professional network? If you’re like most entrepreneurs, you’ve had some successes but also made your share of mistakes.

If you dwell on these mistakes and view them as failures, you have little hope of changing your outcomes in the final quarter or the new year.

But if you make time to contemplate what wisdom can be gleaned from your mistakes, you create new opportunities for success.

At Celeste Giordano Coaching, I work one-one-one with clients who don’t want to be victims of the mistakes they’ve made along the way. Together, we set meaningful goals and explore sales and business development strategies designed to help finish the year strong. With commitment, the right tools and a positive mindset, there is still time to “Double Plus” your income in 2016 (and certainly in 2017!).

With a business coach in your corner, you can bounce back from the mistakes you’ve made and start taking pride in your business – and yourself – again.
