Why You’ve Got What It Takes To Make Your Dreams a Reality

Do you look before you leap? Perhaps you spend so much time cautiously looking around for potential danger that all you can see is pitfalls and problems on the road ahead.

Unfortunately, that kind of extreme caution can be masking a fear of failure, which in turn can completely sink our dreams before they even get off the ground.

I had a wonderful conversation on my radio show last week with the fabulous entrepreneur Susan Dabbar, founder of PROVOKEDbysusan.com. (If you missed the episode live, you can view it now – I guarantee you will be inspired!) Susan is a big believer in the idea of “leap before you look,” and urges others to quit waiting for the perfect moment to get started on a goal. I love this mentality and completely agree that perfect timing or conditions do not exist when it comes to launching our dream legacy business.

Of course, those pitfalls we fear still exist and can cause frustration and discouragement. We all make mistakes and we all get weary at times. Enduring hardships and opposition can make anyone feel ready to give up on their dreams.

If this resonates for you, rest assured that you are not alone. But today, I want to offer you a different perspective.

I want you to think back to your great-great-grandmother. Maybe you know her name or maybe you don’t. Maybe you have heard stories about her or you might have to guess what her life was like.

Regardless, it’s safe to say that she could not have had the same dreams that you have today.

She couldn’t have dreamed of starting her own business, most likely. She might not have received much of an education. She might not have had a choice about whether to work or in what capacity. She certainly could never have imagined the daily conveniences that we enjoy and take for granted.

You have the opportunity to do so much. And you are standing on the shoulders of so many who came before you who didn’t have the opportunities you had.

And here’s the really special thing: you are not facing your hardships alone.

That great-great-grandmother, along with so many others who came before you, overcame so much in their lives. You can overcome so much in yours.

Think of your friends, family members, and colleagues who sincerely want you to succeed. They are cheering you on. You have more people cheering you on than you might realize. And when you know someone is cheering for you, you can keep going, work a little harder, and do a little more.

I like to imagine all of the people who came before me cheering me on. They’re saying, “Achieve greatness. Live your purpose. What you do with your life matters.”

Life may be tough, but you’ve got what it takes to make your dreams a reality.

It may seem like you’re not qualified or experienced enough, but like David in the Bible, you can defeat a giant like Goliath.

You may have made mistakes in the past, but that doesn’t mean you can’t become who you were created to be. Moses was 80 before God used him to fulfill his great purpose.

Now, I’m not trivializing your struggles. Your challenges are real. What I’m saying is that you can overcome your obstacles.

If you don’t do it for yourself, do it not only for those who came before you, but also for those who come after you. Whether you have children or not, think of the young people a few generations from now who will be standing on your shoulders achieving beyond our imaginations. Do a little more, dream a little bigger, and try a little harder, knowing that they will run because you walk.

Decide that you’re not going to give up on what has been passed down to you. You’re going to go further, be better, and strive a little harder as you work to make your dream a reality. You will not let fear or timing or excuses get in your way.

One more thing… I want you to know that I’m cheering you on, in addition to all of the people who came before you and those around you. You do have support and a champion in your corner.
