Two Important Plans You Need to Make Today!
I am a big believer in the power of making a plan. Last week, I talked about creating a plan to realize your WHY. Research has proven, again and again, that making an action plan leads to more success, more follow through, and more forward progress on your goals.
Today, I want to remind you of two important things to plan for this fall. I cannot understate the importance of making a plan for both of these, and I hope you will feel inspired to put your plan in writing TODAY. Nothing motivates quite like putting pen to paper!
Make a Plan to Vote!
The first thing I urge you to make a plan for is voting in our upcoming American election. Voting is more than a right we all hold as citizens—it is a civic duty, and a sacred responsibility.
Soon, Americans will have the opportunity to cast our ballot for the office of the President of the United States, as well as other state and local elected positions that have real impacts on our lives, individually, within our communities, and nationally.
I don’t remind you of your responsibility to vote to sway you in favor of one candidate or another —that is your personal choice—but rather that the freedom to vote and take part in selecting our civic leaders is one that we cannot take for granted. Our forefathers and mothers fought and in some cases died so that we may exercise our right to vote.
So now is the time to make a plan to vote. Take a second to visit Vote.org, a nonpartisan organization, to make sure you are registered to vote. The registration deadline is fast approaching in many states (in Georgia, it’s October 7th.) Then decide when and how you will cast your ballot, whether in person on Election Day, early, or by mail. Put it on your calendar and check with friends and family to make sure they do the same.
Make a Plan to Finish the Year Strong!
Every fall, I make it a priority to sit down and do some serious self-reflection, then translate those thoughts into an action plan. I believe that, in order to be successful, you must do an honest analysis of where you are, what you’ve achieved, and areas where you can improve.
If you’re still committed to making 2024 a year of great personal achievement and prosperity, I highly recommend you challenge yourself to engage in meaningful introspection. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Have I achieved my 2024 goals? If not, am I close to achieving the unmet ones?
- Have I made networking a priority?
- Am I following through with the leads and contacts I meet?
- Does my business regularly receive referrals and positive reviews?
- Is my work/life balance what I want it to be?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, it’s time to grab your pen and make a plan for how to change your answers to a resounding YES.
Perhaps you need to revisit your goals and ask if they are “S.M.A.R.T.” – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. You may need to break a goal down into smaller pieces in order to achieve it. For example, if you want to begin using social media for your business, you can start strong on a single platform rather than launching on multiple sites.
If your networking has fallen off, fall is a great time to get back on the bandwagon. Many professional organizations offer seminars, luncheons, and events in the fall months. Do not miss an opportunity to make new connections!
On the other hand, if you have made lots of connections but not followed up with any of them, create a schedule to do so. A simple reintroduction via email can go a long way in generating new business and leads.
Did you hope 2024 would be the year your online reviews would take off? It’s not too late to ask your satisfied customers for a rating on Google or elsewhere! Emailing a simple review request may refresh a client’s memory about your excellent service and prompt them to refer you to a friend.
Achieving a comfortable balance between our professional and personal lives requires a careful plan. Time management comes into play here, as well as delegation of work, consideration of busy seasons (both at home and at the office), and most importantly, identifying the support you need. Many of my Celeste Giordano Consulting clients say that the most valuable part of our engagement is figuring out that elusive work/life balance together.
