The Root of Happiness

What’s your favorite holiday?

Thanksgiving is amongst my favorite holidays of the year. And it’s not just because of the delicious culinary creations my husband Mike whips up each year, without fail. It’s because Thanksgiving is the only holiday exclusively devoted to GRATITUDE.

I want to let you in on a little secret about gratitude that has the power to change your business and your life: Gratitude is one of the most important factors influencing your happiness.

According to Professor Robert Emmons from the University of California, consistently grateful people are happier and feel more satisfaction with their lives. They experience fewer negative emotions; are more optimistic; have better quality relationships; are more generous – the list goes on and on. They even sleep more and recover faster from illness!

The reason for this is that the more gratitude we have, the better able we are to live in the present, free from anxiety and regret. Rather than focusing on what we don’t have, we learn to appreciate what we do have and what we have achieved. The more we recognize the blessings and achievements in our lives, large and small, the happier we feel. Gratitude fosters a positive mindset that invites even more blessing in our business and our lives, and sets us up for success.

As you gather together with friends and family tonight or over the weekend, you will catch up, share stories, laugh, and enjoy a delicious meal. But I want to encourage you to not miss out on an opportunity to pause and reflect on all you have to be grateful for this year.

I know many entrepreneurs find themselves disappointed with themselves around this time of year, frustrated that they didn’t reach the goals they set out to achieve last January. But even if you didn’t have a year of explosive growth, I can promise you there are small victories worth acknowledging and celebrating in your business and your personal life.

By flexing your gratitude muscles, you open your eyes to the abundant blessings you have in your life. Here are a few things to be grateful for this thanksgiving:

Your independence. Entrepreneurs have the ability to think creatively, innovate, take chances, design their own schedule, and make choices in ways that individuals who work traditional 9 to 5 jobs simply aren’t able to. Be grateful for your freedom to pursue your dreams. At Celeste Giordano Coaching, I empower driven, committed entrepreneurs to develop the mindset, strategies and plan in place to build a Legacy Business

Your family. Sometimes entrepreneurs are so busy with the daily grind or fiercely focused on growing their business that they don’t stop to fully appreciate their support system. Do you have a spouse who supports you, cooks for you, or carries you through your low days? Are you grateful for a sibling or parent who’s always quick to lend a listening ear? Thanksgiving is an opportune time to let friends, family and loved ones know how much you value them and their support.

Your team. As the end of 2017 approaches, take a moment to acknowledge the colleagues, employees and service providers who support you on your path to success and help you achieve your goals. Express gratitude to your team for their service and your committed clients for their business. Has a member of your team gone above and beyond? Send them a hand-written note to show your appreciation for all that they do.

What Am I Grateful For?

My husband Mike and I are fortunate to have much to be grateful for – our family, friends, freedom, colleagues and, of course, one another. Professionally, I am grateful to be supported by a team of dedicated experts – business managers, social media experts, copywriters and brand strategists – who help me achieve my goals. Without my personal and professional blessings, I would not be where I am, or who I am, today. Last but certainly not least, Mike and I are thankful for each and every one of our clients. It’s a privilege to help them grow both personally and professionally. Being that we’re in the business of developing people, our clients are our greatest assets.

Writer and public speaker Eckhart Tolle says, “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation of abundance.” This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to take stock of all your blessings and successes. By celebrating the gifts and achievements in your life, you can kick off 2018 with a positive, grounded approach.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving with much to be grateful for!
