How to Spring Clean Your Business

SpringSpring is a time of renewal.

We see it in nature. As the cold weather becomes milder, grass grows and flowers bloom.

But spring is also a time for renewal in the home. For some people, spring cleaning is an important ritual. We declutter, reorganize, scrub and polish our homes, bringing them back to good shape after a long, cold winter. It can be hard work, but we when all the work is done, we feel refreshed and revitalized. In a sense, spring cleaning brings us back to life.

This year, I want to challenge you to spring clean your business.

Most entrepreneurs have businesses in need of being decluttered, organized, scrubbed and polished in order to make them productive and prosperous.

Here are 6 steps you should be taking to clean up your business to make it thrive THIS year:

1. Clear Away the Clutter. To make your business thrive, you need to be laser-focused. Don’t waste time or energy on activities that don’t add value to your business and your bottom line. If one of the services you offer isn’t in demand, cut it out and focus on your most profitable service(s). It’s also important to evaluate what emotional clutter may be distracting you from being productive in your business. If there are any toxic relationships in your business or personal life bringing you down or distracting you from your goals, consider distancing yourself from them.

2. Organize Your Emails. Does your inbox look more like a wild jungle than a kept garden? Schedule an afternoon to attend to your inbox, responding to any emails you have been pushing off for too long. More importantly, create a system for organizing your emails and prioritizing which need to be addressed most urgently. By making your communication methods more manageable, you’ll free up time for the other important tasks you need to conquer daily.

3. Check in with Your Customers. Part of keeping your business healthy and growing is getting regular feedback. Check in with your customers to get their honest feedback. Are they happy with your service? What could you do to serve them better? Do everything (reasonable) within your power to apply their feedback to better your business. Remember, they are your best referral source!

4. Clean Your Office. You can’t do your best work in a chaotic environment. Research shows that when your surroundings are cluttered, your ability to focus suffers and your stress level increases. Take some time to make your physical work space an environment you actually want to work in. Organize your desk, create a filing system for important documents, and get rid of the items you no longer use.

5. Re-visit Your Business Plan. Having a business plan is a great first step, but don’t tuck it away to collect dust. Review your plan regularly to ensure you are on track to meeting your short and long term goals. It’s also important to change and adapt your plan as necessary. As an accountability partner at Celeste Giordano Coaching, I teach the entrepreneurs I work with how to stay on course consistently so they can reach and exceed their goals.

6. Don’t do it alone. Like spring cleaning your home, cleaning up your business can be hard work but you don’t have to do it alone. Build a support team around you to be responsible for the tasks you don’t enjoy or have time to execute. This will free your time up to focus on business development and executing the activities you excel at most.

You should also consider hiring an expert to teach you the tools necessary to accelerate sales and overcome obstacles in your business. At Celeste Giordano Coaching, I empower my clients to get laser focused on the business activities they need to perform daily, weekly and monthly to build a Legacy Business.

Don’t push off until tomorrow what you can do today. Investing time in spring cleaning will make your business more organized, efficient, productive and prosperous!
