Choose Faith Over Fear

Happy Easter blessings to you and your family! There is much to celebrate today, even if you are not doing so the way you normally would. I hope that you can still enjoy church via livestream or catch a sermon on TV. If the weather cooperates, you can enjoy hiding Easter eggs for the children. And of course, we can still sit down together at the family table (even if only on Zoom) and be thankful for all our blessings.

Today, I want to talk to you about why we should all choose faith over fear during the coronavirus crisis.

When you think about what’s going on right now, especially when you read the news or hear about people affected personally by COVID-19, it’s easy to be worried and afraid.

You might be thinking, what if I get sick? What if a loved one becomes seriously ill? What if my business doesn’t make it?

All of those thoughts are understandable, and you’re not alone for feeling the fear and concern this crisis has brought on.

But I want you to know that you are not in this alone. I don’t mean that you have me, although you do. I am here for you. I don’t mean your family, although I hope that you have their support too.

I mean that you have a protector, a defense against trouble, and a guardian in God.

You know that I am a Christian, but I typically don’t talk about my religious beliefs here. I mostly stick to the business strategy and motivation that I share with my Celeste Giordano Coaching clients. But there is a time and a place to talk about faith and this is it if there ever was a time.

Psalm 121: God will keep you from all harm – He will watch over your life. God will watch over you when you leave and when you return. God will watch over you  now and always.

I accepted Jesus into my heart when I was in college. But what I learned in the years that followed as my faith grew was that God had been with me all along.

God has been protecting you since the day you were born. In fact, if you knew all of the things God has protected you against in your life, you would not worry about the future, knowing that God will be your guardian.

When you live with faith, you don’t have to worry about your future. When you live with God, you can live in peace.

This is not to say that nothing bad will ever happen. Difficulties may come. There will always be trouble in this world. What it means is that you have a mighty shield.

You may know that people of Jewish faith just observed the Passover holiday. This holiday, which Jesus Himself celebrated, observes how God shielded His people from the plagues that were inflicted upon Egypt. The locusts, the hail, and the wild beasts all passed over the homes of the faithful Israelites.

It’s not that hard times didn’t happen to the Israelites. After all, they were enslaved in Egypt at the time. It’s that they were spared the worst.

This belief does not come from arrogance or superiority. It doesn’t come from wishing ill upon those with different beliefs.

It comes from deeply-rooted faith.

I hope that you stay healthy, but if illness comes your way, don’t accept the worst. Remain prayerful for the best.

I hope that your business continues to thrive, but if struggles come your way, don’t talk in defeat. Talk in victory.

This is not the time to call the negative people in your life who will focus on doom and gloom. This is not the time to spend your whole day watching the news. This is not the time to allow negative thoughts to take over your mind.

Like the Israelites, you don’t have to open your door to harm.

This is the time to call your faithful friends who will uplift you. This is the time to put limits on yourself so you read the news for 20 minutes, get informed, and move on. This is the time to remind yourself that God keeps you safe from harm.

This is the time to think this too shall pass.

By choosing to live in peace, you are choosing to take control over your circumstances. You are putting yourself in a position of power.

You can actually choose to be motivated by this crisis to get through it and come out on the other side better than you were before.

So today, choose gratitude for each day that you and your loved ones are healthy. Choose peace over struggle and strife. Choose faith over fear.

And may God bless you and keep you.
