Are You Neglecting These Pages on Your Website?

If you are at all involved in the website for your company or organization, you know what a monumental undertaking it is. Even after the initial work of getting it up and running, there is a lot of upkeep.

That’s why it’s no surprise that many website owners neglect several pages that are, in fact, the most visible and important.

Did you know that the most visited pages on the average website rank in this order?

  1. Home page
  2. About page
  3. Blog
  4. Contact page

And yet, the contact and about pages often amount to a “set it and forget it” strategy. If you’re like many professionals with a website, when you initially created the site, you put straight forward text on those pages, and haven’t thought about them since.

Contrast that with the hours of time you’ve put into creating and updating content for your home page, and you see the problem.

Not putting thought and care into the about and contact pages is like throwing interested prospects out the window.

This is your first opportunity to be remarkable, and stand out from the websites’ of your competitors.

So today, I want to share ways to improve on those two pages, as well as a third page that is not viewed as much, but equally important – and equally neglected.

About Page

Why do you go to about pages on other websites? Often, you want to find out what the business or organization does, you might want to get involved, or you might be wondering where the business operates. It’s likely that people are visiting your about page for the same reasons.

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your about page:

  • Explain more about what you do and why you do it right up front – this is your chance to tell visitors a story with vivid, compelling details.
  • Use a headline at the top that explains why your business is relevant to the visitor – this is a great spot to brag about a problem you solve or how you stand out from your competitors.
  • List your business address if it is relevant.
  • Give your visitor a chance to take action. Include a place for them to submit their email address for more information or give them a small discount on their first purchase.

Contact Page

It might sound obvious that you need to include all pertinent contact information on this page, but you would be surprised. Many businesses neglect the very contact information that visitors are looking for. If you’ve ever been on a restaurant’s website searching in vain for a phone number, you know what I’m talking about.

Here’s what to include on your contact page:

  • A welcome message letting visitors know that you love to hear from them
  • Email address or contact form to submit a message electronically (if you use a contact form, keep the fields limited to only the most important like name, email address, and message)
  • Phone number and address if it is relevant
  • Link to your scheduling calendar if you use this type of tool
  • A way to take immediate action, such as a place for them to submit their email address to get added to your mailing list

Another Important Page: Thank You Page

If you’ve followed my recommendations above, you have a way for visitors to share their email address on your website. I advise my Celeste Giordano Coaching clients to provide a bonus for their contact information, such as a free report or complimentary consultation.

When they provide their information, they next page they will see is a “thank you page,” and like about and contact pages, this page is often under-utilized.

This is your chance to wow your new prospect! Here is how to do so:

  • First and foremost, thank them warmly.
  • Let them know what will happen next. If they will get a confirmation email, tell them. If they’ll get future blog posts, tell them. Explain what they can expect from you so there will be no surprises.
  • Give them more information. Your new prospect is clearly interested in your business. Tell them more about why you do what you do, or give them more information that they can put to use right away.

Even spending one hour of your time spicing up these often-neglected pages on your website can delight your visitors and lead to more prospects. And remember, I’m here to help. If you want a guiding expert so that your marketing delivers more happy clients, contact me today.
