Happy Thanksgiving! How Will You Show Gratitude Today?
Is a turkey roasting in your oven? Can you smell the mouth-watering scents of sweet potatoes and stuffing?
Today, as the aroma of Thanksgiving is in the air, we are given the opportunity to pause from our busy lives to reflect on what matters most, while surrounded by our loved ones.
As I sit around the table at Thanksgiving each year, I take time to count my blessings and express gratitude for all that I have in my life.
It goes without saying that Thanksgiving is a fitting time to appreciate your family. Take time this long weekend to reflect on whether you make enough time for the people who matter most, and whether you have expressed your appreciation for all they do to enrich your life.
I like to practice what I preach, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank my husband, Mike. I’m so blessed by the life we have built together, and grateful for our extended family, our friends, our faith, and our freedom.
With that said, the chief lesson of the Thanksgiving story – the importance of gratitude – doesn’t only apply to family and friends. It applies to all areas of your lives. Gratitude isn’t something to practice on occasion; it should permeate every aspect of daily life. And as entrepreneurs, our businesses are no exception.
It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of forgetting to count our professional blessings amidst the pressing deadlines and countless responsibilities that epitomize our daily routines. But a successful business doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and while you may wear many hats, you aren’t a one-man or one-women operation. It’s important to recognize all those who contribute to the success of your business, and to express your gratitude to them.
So today, I invite you to stop and reflect on your professional blessings and how grateful you are for them.
Thanks to Your Clients
We live in an incredibly competitive world. You provide a service, but you likely have many competitors eagerly trying to tap the same target market as you. Remember that your clients have chosen to put their faith – and invest their hard-earned dollars – in you.
What have you done lately to let clients know you value their continued business?
In addition to providing a quality service that adds value to their lives and doing right by your clients, letting them know you appreciate them is one of the best ways to secure their business. And remember, a happy client is more likely to send high quality leads your way! Consider sending a token of appreciation in the form of a promotion, special gift, or “bonus” service to drive your message home.
Thanks to Your Team
It’s no secret that the final business quarter is a busy time of year. But don’t forget to thank the colleagues, employees, and service providers who expertly support you on your path to success and help you achieve your goals.
How could you thank your team members for their service?
Whether you can express your gratitude in person, over the phone, in a handwritten note, or with a small token of appreciation, the important thing is to let them know you value their contribution and commend them for the specific work they do.
Expressing your appreciation should become a regular habit. When team members feel their efforts are being recognized and appreciated, it fuels them to produce even better results, which drives your business forward.
Thanks to Your Support System
Who roots for you to succeed, picks you up when you’re struggling, and holds down the fort as you tirelessly pursue your dreams? You’ve likely had a number of fans in your life that have cheered you on, provided sound advice, and shared lessons they learned on their own journeys. Whether it’s your friends, family members, colleagues, or mentors, their support, guidance, and knowledge can help you overcome obstacles and accelerate your road to success.
What can you do to let them know how deeply you appreciate their encouragement and support?
Thanks to Your Independence
As an entrepreneur or business owner, you’re free to make decisions and take chances you couldn’t otherwise make in a traditional job. With the right plan and a healthy dose of self-discipline, anything is possible. You can be the master of your schedule and build your own legacy.
Whether or not you’ve been faced with challenges in achieving your goals this year, as an entrepreneur, you’re free to pursue your dreams and learn from your mistakes.
